A client called me last week who was in a panic. Her home computer was running so slowly that she couldn’t get her work done – and it was due the next morning. This went way beyond the typical sluggishness that many people complain about. She would try to open her browser and 10 minutes later it still hadn’t started. Once it finally did open up, the internet connection wasn’t working.
I remote controlled into her computer, and an hour later she was back to work. She was thrilled and said that her computer hadn’t been that fast since she first bought it 5 years ago!
My secret? A free PC tune-up utility program called SlimCleaner. It performs dozens of automated tasks to “de-gunk” your computer. Many of those tasks, as you would imagine, are pretty technical – things like deleting temporary files, defragmenting the hard drive, removing bloatware from your browser, eliminating unnecessary startup programs and much more. Fortunately you don’t need to be an IT expert to use it.
SlimCleaner is a gem, but beware of other programs that claim to speed-up your PC! Some are advertised on TV. Some are pop-ups. Most of them have a free teaser and then they make you pay with a credit card before they will actually fix things. In fact, some don’t even speed-up your computer – but they do deposit bad things into your PC. SlimCleaner is one of the good-guys.
